November Already?

Well this tour has just flown by! We’ve had two release shows for Little Bug with the last one tomorrow in Montreal at Petit Campus. It’s going to be really great. We’re starting nice and early at 8:30 and Ria Mae and Corinna Rose will do short opening sets before I hop on stage with my Montreal gang of Mighty Oak members. We’re also going to have some special guests join us for the show–some terrific Montreal musicians you might know and love (if you’ve got any sense!).

Tonight is the last night of Nova Scotia Music Week and I get to present the award for best male artist of the year with the lovely Norma Macdonald. We’ve colour coordinated our outfits. We’re going to be cute as buttons. Yay!

After the album release in Montreal Corinna Rose and I are heading westward for shows in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver. We’re taking the train again and we’ll be singing for the folks on the train. We’ve brushed up on our Lightfoot covers and dusted off my rousing renditions of The Cat Came Back and Sandwiches Are Beautiful (Fred Penner is mandatory train music. According to me). It’ll be fun!

Send me a note if you’d like to come to our house show in Calgary and please come see us at one of our other shows in Montreal, Winnipeg, Edmonton, or Vancouver! I think winter has arrived in the prairies. I heard talk of blizzards.

Bundle up and stay warm and hope to see you soon!

Welcome, Little Bug!

Little Bug was officially released on Tuesday, while I sat on a train to Toronto (that was delayed 3 hours due to an unhappy accident that could not be avoided). I’ve been rehearsing with old and new members of The Mighty Oak for our show tonight at the Rivoli. It’s going to be a stripped down set with just guitars and banjo for instrumentation and lots of harmonies and hand clapping and some foot stomping for good measure. It’s going to be wonderful.

We’ve officially embarked on the Little Bug tour and I am really looking forward to all the lovely shows we’re getting to play on this tour. Friday night (October 5th) we’ll be in Ottawa at Raw Sugar with Olenka and the Autumn Lovers. It’s been nearly two years since we’ve shared the stage and I am really really looking forward to this night.

After that it’s time for OCFF! For the non-folk-musicians out there OCFF is a yearly conference of all things folk music that serves as a venue for artists to try and connect with artistic directors and other musicians and music industry types and ESPECIALLY to see our friends from all over the country all in one place at one time for three days of playing our hearts out. Who am I kidding? It’s a lot like camp.

From OCFF we jet (literally, we are flying. Let’s all say a prayer for my guitar getting there in one piece this time) to Halifax where I am playing the amazing Halifax POP Explosion again (YAYAY!!!) and to start rehearsals with the Haligonian contingent of the Mighty Oak for Little Bug’s Halifax album release show on October 25th at the Spatz theatre. This will also be Amelia Curran’s album release of her new album Spectator and I get to open with my own album release. I don’t think I have ever been more excited about any single show. I am a huge fan of Amelia’s. She makes me want to write better songs with better lyrics. Not only do I get to play in a theatre with an amazing band of friends but then I get to sit back and listen to her blow everyone away. It’s going to be a very big night. I sure hope you can come!

There will plenty of shows all over Canada on the Little Bug tour (see dates to the right), I’ve got my dear and trusty friend Corinna Rose with me for the whole ride. We ARE still confirming some Alberta dates but we sadly have to skip magical Saskatchewan and dear New Brunswick this trip due to time constraints. I promise I will be there in the Spring. Any questions about the dates or anything Little Bug related or if you just want to say hello (not you spammers! Spam is not cool!) just send me a note!

Happy Autumn!

Bugs and fishes,

Gabrielle

Little Bug, Mountain Stage Newsong Contest, Tour Dates!

Oh hi!

I’ve been swimming in things to do getting ready for the album release and for the Fall tour. There are so many exciting things on the go and I’m hoping to make a proper announcement about them all soon but in the meantime here’s a quick rundown to tide folks over!

The three album launch shows (in Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax) are officially booked and I am really excited about all three of these shows! The first one will be in Toronto at the Rivoli on September 30th with JF Robitaille and Corinna Rose opening. The second launch show is a whopper of a show, it will be a double album launch and I’ll be opening for the incredible Amelia Curran at the Spatz Theatre in Halifax as she also launches her new album. This show will be incredible. I’ve recruited some of my Halifax musician-friends and band-mates for my set and then we’ll all get to sit back and be dazzled by Amelia. Mark your calendars friends. Tickets are already available online and the show is October 25th. The last album launch show will also be a real treat as I’ll have two of my favourite friends (Corinna Rose from Montreal and Ria Mae from Halifax) opening for me. This will be such a fun show! That will be at Petit Campus on November 12th. More dates to be posted very very soon!

I’m also really honoured to be among the 10 regional finalists in the International category for the Mountain Stage Newsong Contest. I can’t tell you how excited I was when I read my name among the finalists. The next round is being judged as we speak! Each finalist sent in a live video of a performance and the winning finalist will get to perform in the finals at the Lincoln Center in New York at the end of October. There are some great friends and some incredibly talented songwriters in my category. It’s pretty amazing to be among them and to have gotten this far. You can check out the Mountain Stage Newsong website to check out all the finalists videos. I’ve sent in a brand new Heavy Weather video that we shot at the beginning of August after I’d just come home to Halifax with dear Halifax bandmates Sasha Muise (who is magical) and Nicholas MacLean (who is a killer guitar player).

I will leave things at that for now. So much to do! I’ve started preparing all the pre-order packages so they can all be off in time for the official album release date (SEPTEMBER 25TH!). Am having entirely too much fun with my shiny silver pen.

More tour dates and details on other fun things to come in short order! C’est promis!

Oh! Did I mention I’ve got a new website remodel in the works? The ever patient and stalwart Sean Yeomans is on the case!

Stay tuned!

Gab

Salut les amis!

Oh gosh. It seems like the Spring just started and here we are, waltzing right into August. Touring and playing summer festivals has kept me busy and now we (I mean myself and my super team of super people) are getting Little Bug ready for it’s coming out party.

I had the most wonderful time playing at the All Folked Up festival in Montmartre, Saskatchewan and then galavanting about that magical prairie province with the divine and classy Christa Couture and the plucky wonder that is Corinna Rose. It felt like a working vacation getting to adventure about with those two.

With touring done for the summer I’ve got one fabulous show I’m looking forward to that will be my last until September. On August 3rd I’ll be closing out the night for Ruth Minnikin’s album release show. I’ll be on right after Ruth’s set sometime around 11:30 p.m. yes sir! So excited to see Ruth play! Did I mention this is a free show? I didn’t? Well it is! Did I mention I’d be joined by the Halifax contingent of the *Mighty Oak? I didn’t? Well they’ll be there with me! Expect shenanigans.

Also, we’ve launched the new video I shot with Southern Souls (EEEEeeeee!). So begins the fun in anticipation of the September 25th, release of Little Bug. Oh. I didn’t tell you about the release date yet? Right. My apologies. *ahem* I hereby proclaim September 25th (the day after my dad’s birthday) Little Bug album release day! *cue confetti canon* *launch confetti*

The album is amazing. My producer is a genius, and my seriously talented musician friends played and sang brilliantly. I am so so lucky. Pre-orders are now available via the fancy link in the top righthand corner of this page. Hooray!

Right. I think that covers it.

Love and hugs to you and enjoy the rest of the summer (and wear sunscreen!!!)

Gabrielle

*The Halifax contingent of The Mighty Oak includes Kev Corbett, Sasha Muise, Julia Feltham (who sadly cannot make the Aug. 3 show) and Nick Maclean. Can I get a yeehaw?
